Review: Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 for iPod/iPhone

Monday, June 30th, 2008

If you’re familiar with Pure-Fi Anywhere, you pretty much know what to expect from the sequel. Logitech bundles four speaker drivers, an iPod or iPhone dock, and a 10-hour rechargeable battery in a 13.25” wide by 3.7” tall by 1.6” deep white or black plastic enclosure; a layer of clear plastic on the front makes each model resemble Apple’s since-discontinued fifth-generation iPods and original iPod nanos. The speakers…

News: Rhapsody launches DRM-free MP3 music store

Monday, June 30th, 2008

RealNetworks has announced the launch of a new iPod-compatible, DRM-free MP3 version of its Rhapsody music store. With a catalog of more than five million songs from all four major music labels as well as a number of independents, the Rhapsody music store will offer most albums for $9.99 and tracks for $0.99, and will offer full-length previews of songs, compared to the 30-second samples found on competing services such as iTunes and Amazon MP3. As…

Review: iSkin touch for iPod touch

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Last year, iSkin released Revo for iPhone, a novel silicone rubber case that unfortunately fell short of the company’s typically high standards of usability and design. iSkin touch is a less gimmicky and more affordable version, preserving the good core concept of a two-color case, adding a detachable rotating belt clip, and doing away with the hard plastic shield and privacy screen protector that didn’t do much for us in the previous…

Review: Gecko Gear Safe Case for iPod touch

Monday, June 30th, 2008

We were generally pleased with Gecko’s Safe Case, though the design struck us as instantly familiar. Made from two pieces of interlocking hard plastic, the Safe Case is so much like earlier SwitchEasy CapsuleTouch cases we’ve tested that we’re positive that they’re from the same factory. Yet there are differences, some making the Safe Case a little better, others not. Unlike CapsuleTouch, Safe Case is available in a single…

Review: Incase Slider Case for iPod touch

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Incase’s Slider Case for the iPod touch is, in essence, a less impressive version of the Safe Case that’s sold at a higher price. Rather than attempting to cover the iPod’s face, or provide users with any type of pack-ins, Incase offers a simple two-piece shell that’s based upon its earlier Slider Case for iPhone. The shell splits into two pieces, one covering the touch’s top four-fifths, including the sides and bezel,…

News: Internal AT&T, Rogers memos detail iPhone 3G unbricking

Monday, June 30th, 2008

An internal AT&T memo obtained by AppleInsider, and a similar internal Rogers memo posted on a Canadian iPhone forum, describe a special version of iTunes that will be used for the in-store “unbricking” process required to let customers use the iPhone 3G. The AT&T memo shows an icon for “iTunes (Activation Only Mode),” noting that “[t]his icon is for the itunes utility that will be used for unbricking iPhone 3G…

Review: H2O Audio iSH2 Waterproof Headset

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Waterproof iPod products we’ve previously tested were designed as two-piece solutions—the iPod goes inside a case and connects via a waist-high cord to a pair of special headphones—and H2O Audio’s initial offering for the second-generation iPod shuffle followed this mold. The $40 iS2 used a translucent blue rubber and hard plastic shell to protect the shuffle, including both a belt clip and armband as mounting options. By contrast,…

News: Canadian users blast Rogers on iPhone 3G pricing

Monday, June 30th, 2008

In the wake of last week’s announcement by Rogers Communications of Canadian iPhone service plans, a grass roots petition campaign has been launched to protest both data limits on the plans and their associated pricing. User James Hallen initially created an anti-Rogers website with a profane URL, later re-directing traffic to an updated site called ruinediphone.com, claiming that the Canadian iPhone carrier’s rates on its iPhone service…

News: Hutchison reveals iPhone 3G plans, pricing for Hong Kong

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong has revealed its pricing and service plans for the iPhone 3G in Hong Kong. Following precedents set in various other countries, Hutchison will offer tiered pricing on the iPhone 3G, based on which of the four iPhone Tariff Plans the customer chooses for his or her 24-month agreement. With the HK$498 (roughly $64) plan, which includes unlimited data and 2,200 basic minutes, the 8GB iPhone 3G will sell for HK$0, while the…
